TECHNICIAN CLASS

 

TECHNICIAN CLASS- I will be holding a Technician Class for three Saturdays, May 12, 19 & 26, 2018. Classes will be held at American Legion Post 294, 3282 Florence Road, Powder Springs, GA 30127 from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Students must attend all three classes. There is no cost for the class or the exam at the end. Students must purchase the ARRL Technician manual (current edition) from www.arrl.org, from Amazon.com or retail outlets such as Ham Radio Outlet 6071 Buford Highway, Atlanta, GA or www.hamradio.com.

Students must pre-register for the class.

EXTRA CLASS

EXTRA CLASS- I will be holding an EXTRA Class for eight Saturdays on July 7 through August 25, 2018.  Classes will be held at American Legion Post 294, 3282 Florence Road, Powder Springs, GA 30127 from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Students must attend all eight classes. There is no cost for the class or the exam at the end. Students must purchase the ARRL EXTRA manual (current edition) from www.arrl.org, from Amazon.com or retail outlets such as Ham Radio Outlet, 6071 Buford Highway, Atlanta, GA or www.hamradio.com.

Students must pre-register for the class.

Licensing classes are scheduled several times per year and will be listed here as scheduled. Technician and General classes are on three consecutive Saturdays. Extra classes take eight consecutive Saturdays. Find a class here on the ARRL web site. 

Exam sessions are available at the completion of the courses. We are now using Laurel-VEC for exam sessions at the conclusion of the classes.

All students are required to purchase a licensing manual for the license level you are studying for. The recommended manuals are published by the American Radio Relay League or the Gordon West Manuals from the W5YI Group.  They are also available through your local Ham Radio Outlet.


BSA MERIT BADGE

Elden Morris is a BSA Radio Merit Badge Counselor in the Atlanta Area Council. If your troop wants a Radio Merit Badge Class, please contact him to make arrangements. He requires a minimum of 10 students and one adult leader to qualify for BSA Youth Protection two deep leadership. Classes can be scheduled at your location and will take a full day. Elden can also have a class that combines Amateur Radio Licensing and Radio Merit Badge. The combined session will take three days and have an exam session at the conclusion. please see requirements for manuals above under Classes and Testing Exams.
There are radio Merit Badge Classes scheduled several times per year. Those classes are listed on www.meritbadge.info.
There are two Radio Merit Badges scheduled in June 2018.

The first Radio Merit Badge Class is scheduled for Saturday, June 2 at the Cobb County Civic Center from 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM during the Atlanta Hamfest.

The second Radio Merit Badge Class will take place at Dallas Landing Park in Acworth on Saturday, June 23 during the Kennehoochee Amateur Radio Club Field Day Activities.
